Buy yourself an OBD II code reader at the local autoparts store (usually around $60 or so) and read the code.  Look it up in the book, or on the web to determine what the error really is.  Then (unless it is a critical error) reset it with the code reader and see if the problem repeats.
e.g. http://www.qualitytoolsforless.com/Product.aspx?ProductID=588

You will be glad to have it later on, so it will be money well spent.  I have a cheap one from Actron and I use it on 3 of my vehicles, it is very handy to have.

Hello, I just had my engine light come on.  Went to the local autoparts to check out the code readers.  Bought a high end one, about 170 bucks due to it being able to read and decipher codes on LCD screen.

Followed directions and pulled codes.  Gave me a couple.  O2 sensors were sending a lean message.  Left and right banks were running a bit lean.  This reader also cleared codes.  I cleared the codes and changed the fuel filter.  Added injector cleaner.  No engine light yet and its been a week.  These code readers are worth their weight in gold.  Also a bit fun to use as long as you follow directions.

Hey Guys, I am new to this forum and throught I would try to contribute. If anyone is looking for reapir manuals, owner manuals or service manuals for virtually any type of car, there is a FREE ebook at the address below.  I asked him could I download and share it, but he said he prefers to have people come to the website. The site itself isn't the best, Sometimes there are annoying ads and surveys. The ebook is only a couple of pages, but it gives a list of places online  where you can find almost any service and repair manuals, even for very old models and trucks.  I would highly recommend to download  it and keep it on your computer.

All the best
